The “PAM4WELLNESS” project aims to develop and enhance the aromatic and medicinal plants sector.
The PAM4Wellness project, led by UBI and co-promoted by IPCB with funding from COMPETE 2020, focused on studying the potential of Portuguese Aromatic and Medicinal Plants (PAM). It sought to consolidate and enhance these resources as a value-added raw material, especially for the health sector, including the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.
The project aimed to characterize and enhance technical and scientific knowledge about PAM, as well as developing technological tools to improve production systems. Implemented in low-density regions in the North, Center and Alentejo, it aims to contribute to local development, promoting products with global potential and boosting a national export strategy.
One of the central objectives is to develop a decision support system led by LITecS, part of UBI’s C-MAST. The project seeks to positively impact the entire value chain of Portuguese PAM, from production to its use in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical sectors, consolidating and enhancing these natural resources.
