The launch conference for the “Montanha Viva” project, organized by the University of Beira Interior (UBI) in the Press Room of the Casino Fundanense, aims to identify and value the endogenous plants of the Gardunha mountain range, transforming them into resources for local communities. The event addressed the intersection between Tourism, Technology and Sustainability in mountainous regions, aiming to promote sustainable tourism, exploit wild plants with health and well-being benefits, and boost new local ventures.

The project, centered on the Tourism-Technology-Sustainability trinomial, has already identified 12 plants in Gardunha, which are being studied at UBI for their bioactive properties. The initiative seeks to create local business opportunities and develop sustainable tourism in the region. The aim is to offer a unique experience to visitors, combining walking trails with an app that provides information about the plants found, including traditional uses and recipes.

Technology plays a crucial role in the project, allowing plants to be monitored in real time and a database to be created with images and information. The local community is mobilized to participate, with the aim of establishing routes, developing a mobile application and creating points of sale for the plants, ensuring their availability to visitors by the end of the project in 2025.
