The S4Agro project aims to promote environmental sustainability, the safeguarding of resources, process safety and the economic sustainability of companies in the agro-industrial sector.
UBI will lead a consortium to train SMEs in the agro-industrial sector in innovative and sustainable solutions aimed at improving their productivity and efficiency in Industry 4.0 and the circular economy. In collaboration with five Portuguese higher education institutions and an association from the agro-industrial sector, the “S4Agro – Sustainable Solutions for the Agro-Industrial Sector” project will be based at UBI’s C-MAST and will begin in April.
The project will address issues such as sustainability in the meat, fruit, and vegetable, dairy and bakery sub-sectors across the country. It aims to support companies in good practices, in choosing more environmentally friendly packaging, in product traceability and in maintaining their organoleptic characteristics. It also focuses on cybersecurity and waste reduction, with the aim of improving production efficiency and reducing environmental impacts.
During this project, it is hoped that companies will become more competitive and valued, implementing sustainable environmental, economic, and social practices to stand out in more demanding markets.
