LITecS is proud to announce that its technology is supporting a pioneering Portuguese-Brazilian legal research initiative based at Parkurbis, in Tortosendo. This innovative project brings together researchers from the University of Beira Interior and the University of Pernambuco (Brazil), focusing on developing new tools for the modernization and transparency of the justice sector.

At the heart of this collaboration is a robotic arm equipped with soft grippers developed by LITecS. The technology is being studied for its ability to interact with electronic ballot boxes, with the goal of accelerating judicial processes and supporting the introduction of electronic voting systems in Portugal.

Our soft grippers enable the robot to perform delicate tasks with high precision, such as registering a vote, representing a crucial breakthrough for future audits of electronic voting systems. As Professor Pedro Dinis Gaspar, coordinator of LITecS, explained to SIC Notícias: “The robot is capable of identifying the individual’s vote and then typing the desired vote into the ballot box itself.”

This initiative demonstrates how applied research and robotics can offer innovative solutions for justice, transparency, and civic technology. Our commitment is to continue developing technology that not only drives industry but also strengthens institutions and public trust.
